See the best of Central Thailand, including the ancient Kingdom of Ayutthaya and stunning Kanchanaburi province, with this 4 days programme. Starting from Bangkok we’ll head to Mahachai Market, home to one of the biggest seafood piers in the Gulf of Thailand, to see the catch of the day. From there, we’ll stroll along the river toward the pier where Klong Mahachai canal and the Ta Chine River converge to watch fishermen bring in their goods. Straight from the boat and into the hands of traders who immediately auction off the catches, seafood doesn’t get much fresher than this!
The next destination, Mae Klong Railway Market, will literally stop you in your tracks as you watch the vendors scramble to raise their stall awnings as a train passes right through the centre of the market! Continuing on to Ampawa, we’ll visit the Benjarong House and Museum, where you have the opportunity to watch skilled artisans painting delicate chinaware with intricate designs.
Enjoy the next morning at the legendary Damnoen Saduak floating market before continuing to Kanchanaburi, known for its striking natural beauty and historical role in World War II. Here we’ll visit the War Cemetery and the famous River Kwai Railway Bridge.
From here we’ll move on to a happier time in the region’s past and you’ll learn why Bangkok and the surrounding area used to be known as “Venice of the East” as we hop on the long-tail boat navigating rivers and canals to get back to Bangkok. Along the way we’ll visit Wat Phra Sri Sanphet and Wat Chai Wattanaram, two temples that still show evidence of the glorious Ayutthaya empire (1350-1767 A.D.), as well as a few more interesting historical sights, such as Wat Panangchern in Bang Pa In and the Royal Summer Palace.
