Connective tissue (CT) was isolated according to the method
described by Borderías and Montero (1985) with slight modifications.
Salmon sampled for CT determinations were collected from
among the 160 salmon according to balanced sex, body weight,
representative fat content and normal appearance for each of the
FP and WP groups, in total 24 samples. The muscle samples were
homogenised for two minutes using 8‰ NaCl solution. The resulting
homogenate was washed with consecutive rinses of cold water.
This process was repeated several times until clean CT was
obtained. The CT was then soaked overnight using a solution of
1:10 butanol:water (v:v) in order to remove as much fat as possible.
The resulting CT was washed again with cold water, dried by
manual pressing with filter paper, and stabilised at 80 C until
analyses were carried out.
