Although nature may have a hand in our expression of emotions, there are, indeed, a number of findings to suggest that learning also plays a role in emotions expression. One study found that some familiar are very expressive whereas emotional expression is very reserved in others (Halberstadt, 1986). The interesting effect is that expressive families tend to produce members who are good at sending emotional cues but poor at identifying emotions in others (poor receivers) On the other hand, members of reserved families tend to be poor senders but good receivers, especially in the case of negative emotions.
