HE PRESENCE OF MEMBRANE BOUND IMMUNOGLOBULINS (Ig)
I on the surface of normal lymphocytes is well documented in different
species,’3 including man.4 Although thymus derived (T) lymphocytes presumably
carry small amounts of Ig moieties on their surface which are directly
detectable only by very sensitive methods,7’8 those lymphocytes which bear
surface immunoglobulins (S. Ig) in sufficient amounts to be evidenced by
rather insensitive techniques such as direct immunofluorescence have been
shown in several species to be bone marrow or bursa derived (B) lymphocytes.”
The results obtained in the study of patients with immunodeficiency
diseases lead to similar conclusions.6”2’4
