Biogas is a sustainable alternative for fossil fuels. It also provides a solution to bio wastes. This project
deals with design, construction and testing of a bio-digester (plug flow digester), for the production of
biogas using cow dung as substrate. The plug flow digester was designed and constructed to
accommodate feedstock mainly cow dung in the absence of oxygen. Cow dung was mixed with water in
ratio 1:2 respectively to facilitate quick breakdown and digestion of feedstock for biogas production.
The mixture of cow dung and water was fed into the digester and biogas produced was collected into a
gas bag for analysis. Gas produced was tested and analyzed at University of Ibadan research
Laboratory to detect Methane (CH4), Carbon dioxide (CO2), Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) and Oxygen (O2).
From the analysis, the biogas produced contained methane gas (CH4) of 85.33%, carbon-dioxide (CO2)
of 13.07%, Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) of 1.56% and Oxygen (O2) of 0.04%
