During the time that tourism has become the single largest human presence in polar regions, demands for sophisticated medical services, including evacuation from remote locations, have increased substantially, placing severe burdens on infrastructure. In both polar regions, networks of medical staff at sea through international redio channels, polar stations and other ships. One positive adveantage arising from the increasing numbers of ships involved is the increased range of medical facilities that they bring to the area.
