6.2.3. Importance of IT knowledge and skills
IT skills were important for students in searching for information
related to their projects, as well as for preparing for their final project
reports and presentations (Chu, 2009). For example, Chinese input
programs were important as they enabled students to use databases
and search engines. IT skills such as using PowerPoint and Excel
enabled students to create effective presentations for their projects.
Students generally thought IT skills were important to them, as evidenced by ratings that were all above the midpoint of the scale. The
most important areas perceived were the use of Microsoft Office, in
particular PowerPoint and Excel (see Fig. 8).
