Ways to deal with Social Networking Addiction among first year students MFU
Introduction
Social Networking Sites (SNS) are virtual communities where users can create individual public profiles, interact with real-life friends, and meet other people based on shared interests (Daria J. Kuss & Mark D. Griffiths, 2011). Also Social network sites such as Line, Facebook, and Twitter have attracted millions of users, many of whom have integrated these sites into their daily practices. However, Social Networking Sites has greatly affected their students live. The first reason is that it is cyber-relationship addiction. Excessive use of social networking sites to create relationships rather than spending time with family or friends may destroy real-life relationships (Adams M., n.d.). The second reason is that most students use social networking because social networking usage has apparent effects, both positive and negative, on students. In other words, social networking users spent less time in studying and they had lower grades than those who did not use SNS (Mart Anthony D., 2012). The last reason is that harm of use of social network sites is health problems. Health problems which are caused by the usage of SNSs are related to addiction. Teenagers and young adults lose their health because of excessive use of social network sites. They spend lots of time to be online and they look at the same screen for hours. It causes high blood pressure and anxiety (Mustafa Çolak, n.d.). All of these social network sites are harmful for students.
