Since the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
has adopted the HDTV standards defined by the ATSC [1] as
the national terrestrial digital TV standard in 1997, many
countries have decided their own Digital TV (DTV) standards,
such as ATSC, DVB-T [2], and so forth. Along with the
terrestrial broadcasting, cable and satellite broadcasting
industries also adopted their own digital broadcasting
protocols. These digital specifications allowed the video
sources that were delivered in analog signal format to be
delivered in digital, which opened a new era of digital
convergence.
