conducted a survey on the occurrence of ergot alkaloids in some rye-based UK cereal products. The authors reported incidence and contamination data similar to those observed in the present study. Storm et al. (2008) also reported comparable data for a survey of Danish rye flour samples. Much higher contamination levels were reported in Canadian (Scott, 2009) and German (Dusemund et al., 2006) samples. The present study however shows the omnipresence of ergot alkaloids in other than rye samples.
