During the two latest decades in the 1900's the reductions of emissions of nutrients and suspended solids have been significant (ElPPCB, 2001). Until now the reductions of material use in pulp and paper industries have been achieved mainly as a consequence of economic savings. The work has been targeted on reductions in the use of water, energy and fibre. Recently the closed circuit recycling of pigments has become more common.
