In this section we will first examine the relations between north Korea and Communist China for about three years from the liberation to the day before the establishment of the north Korean regime on September 9, 1948. To be pointed out at first is that the Soviet Union was able to establish absolute control over north Korea during this period as the northern half of the Korean peninsula was under its occupation and Communist China’s contact with north Korea was extremely limited as the Chinese Communists were engrossed in a civil war with the Nationalists. In this period, however, we can find several clues on the basis of with we are able to grasp later developments in relations between the two countries.
