The results obtained by sugar analysis showed that
the lignin fractions 1±3 were free of bound poly-
saccharides, and fraction 4 contained 1.26% associated
hemicelluloses as shown by the individual sugars: 0.12%
arabinose, 0.78% xylose, 0.20% glucose and 0.16%
galactose. A similar distribution of sugars, with xylose
as a predominant constituent, was found in a residual
lignin fraction obtained by successive organic solvent
