Pre-Loy Krathong crime crackdown in lower North
More than 4,000 suspects in old and new criminal cases have been arrested and more than 100 weapons and some 100,000 speed pills seized during a one-week crackdown in nine provinces of the lower North.
Provincial Region 6 commissioner Chanasit Wattanarangkul told a media briefing in Phitsanulok on Tuesday a total of 4,374 suspects in old and new cases had been arrested by the time the police operation ended on Monday.
Police also seized 123 weapons and 101,682 speed pills, Pol Lt Gen Chanasit said.
The police operation, between Nov 17 and 23, was launched ahead of the Loy Krathong festival on Wednesday night.
The nine provinces targetted were: Phitsanulok, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Kamphaeng Phet, Tak, Phichit, Uthai Thani, Nakhon Sawan and Phetchabun
The suspects arrested were wanted for offences including physical and sexual assault, theft, illicit drugs, weapons possession, street racing and illegal sales of fireworks.
