3. METHOD
3.1 Procedure
Data were collected ZhongXing and HuaWei enterprises in Beijing province and
finally a sample of 279 new generation employees who were born between 1980 and
1989. The questionnaire data are used to construct the dimensions of HPWS and OCBs
for new generation employees in China and further examine our assumptions. Two
questionnaires were developed in both of these private enterprises. One is designed to
describe HPWS, and the other is used to calculate the OCBs (including job satisfaction,
organizational commitment, and psychological empowerment) for employees. All the
questionnaires were designed in English and translated into Chinese. The Chinese version
was reverse translated and pilot tested to ensure consistency. Moreover, some remedies to
reduce potential common method bias (CMB) were adopted. For instance, the proximal
separation was adopted and demographic was used to separate variables when we
designed the questionnaire. The opposite word and different scale types were also used to
eliminate the impact of CMB.
