Not content with being Australia’s biggest wine producer, Southcorp Wines decided to base its European operations in London in May 2000. The next stage of its international strategy is a global acquisition drive. Indeed, Southcorp Wines aims to be a leader in the consolidation of the global wine industry. There are over one million wine companies in the world, but because of the fragmented nature of the industry, Southcorp Wines only has a few percentage points of the total, even though it is among the top ten largest wine producers. Southcorp Wines already produces wine in the south of France and owns some vineyards in California, and is constantly on the lookout for new acquisitions in both Europe and North America.
