A site/facility water simulation model is then developed using
appropriate software. This model performs two functions.
Firstly it allows the manipulation of the collated raw sourcedata
into the required format, thus allowing completion of the
VA table with actual data. Interrogation of the PFD allows the
model to be developed correctly and hence allows the costs
to be appropriately and accurately allocated. Secondly the
model enables the manipulation of the actual data in order to
compile the true cost of each of the water systems identified
by the rows in the VA table. Whilst all the mathematical
operations are basic, the interconnectivity of all the data
sources and sinks of a large facility may prove challenging.
The outputs of the model can be varied depending on the
end-users requirements, but would be expected to include
the total cost per unit volume of the high-value, high volume
systems and also other calculations of interest, including
that of an overall facility water balance, thus allowing the
determination of the net overall loss or gain of water.
An additional benefit of the model is that it facilitates the
performance of simulations of different scenarios, ranging
from fluctuations in energy or chemical prices, to the benefits
of altering operational procedures.
