Hand images are thresholded to obtain binarized image from which hand contour is extracted. Four key-points (X1,X2,V1,V2) are obtained on the hand contour as shown in Fig. 3(b). Then two more key-points are obtained, C1 that is the intersection point of hand contour and the line passing from V1 with a slope of 45° and C2 that is the intersection point of line passing from V2 with a slope of 60° as shown in Fig. 3(c). Finally the midpoints of the line segment V1C1 and V2C2 are joined which is considered as one side of the required square ROI. The final extracted palmprint ROI is shown in Fig. 3(d).
