Trait EI is defined as a constellation of emotion-related selfperceptions,
located at the lower levels of personality hierarchies
(Petrides, Pita, & Kokkinaki, 2007) and measured using self-report instruments.
Petrides and Furnham (2001) derived the first sampling domain
of trait EI by analyzing the content of early EI models and cognate
constructs. The rationale was to include core elements, which were
common to more than a singlemodel, but also to exclude peripheral elements
appearing in only one conceptualization. One reason why the
conceptualization of trait EI is considered successful is that it recognizes
the inherently subjective nature of emotions (Petrides, 2009).
