2.1.Experimentalequipment
The testwasconductedusingahigh-temperaturetriaxial
loading testsystem(Fig. 1). Thetestingapparatusisusedtoapply
triaxial compressiononthesaltrocksampleunderhightempera-
ture usingacomputertocontroltheelectro-hydraulicservo
automaticloadingsystem.Thehydraulicstationprovidesthe
power,thecomputermeasurementandcontrolsystemareused
tocontroltheelectric-hydraulicservovalve,andthehostrunsthe
experimentunderthecontrolofthecomputer.Themaximum
axial forceusedwas400kN,thehighestconfining pressure
applied was30MPa,andthehighesttemperaturewas100 1C.
2.2. Experimentalmethod
The saltrocksamplesinthisexperimentwerecollectedfrom
depthsof1000matsitesintheHimalayas.Therockhasahigh
contentofNaCl(morethan96%),smallamountsofK2SO3, and
some mud.Toensurethesimilarityofthesaltrocksamplesas
much aspossible,sampleswithalmostthesamecontentof
impurity andwithoutcrackswereselected.Thesaltrocksamples
werecutintocircularcylinders50mmdiameter100mmlength,
and theevennessoftheheadfaceswascontrolledto0.02mm.
Appropriatemeasuresweretakentoprotectthesaltrockspeci-
mens fromfatiguedamageduringprocessing.Weassumethatall
the samplesweresubjectedtosimilarprocessingdamage;there-
fore, theeffectonthetestresultswouldbeminimal
