Higher minimum as well as maximum air temperatures hasbeen projected consequences of climate change for the late 21stcentury in Central Asia (IPCC, 2007). This would raise the waterdemand of rainfed and irrigated crops in general, but may alsoincrease the risk of heat stress during flowering time of winter andspring crops (wheat, barley) grown in the region. On the other hand, higher temperatures during spring may boost early crop growth ofwinter crops, lower the risk of severe/late frost damage and thuslead to higher yields.
