One of the biggest mistakes older women make, say experts is using too much concealer under the eyes and applying it far too close to the lower lids. Using concealer with such a heavy hand may hide your dark circles but it can make your eyes look much smaller and therefore, older too.
Using harsh black eyeliner is also a no-no as you grow older. A softer pencil or a brown pencil is a much better option as it will help your face look much softer and younger. Though eyebrows are an important part of your face and need to be groomed well, using an eyebrow pencil to darken them can only make you look older.
Dark lipsticks are also ageing, though most older women seem to swear by them. It is best to buy a lipstick closest to your own lip colour or in soft tones that add instant youth to any face. Lipliners can be used, but sparingly. Another mistake that older women make is using matte lipstick or skipping the gloss altogether. Though gloopy lips are a no-no, a touch of gloss at the centre of the lips can change the entire expression of the face.
Whatever makeup you plan to use, the key to looking young is to keep it light and simple as you get older. Only then, can cosmetics help you wipe the years away.
