Task: Use a contract jig.
Prerequisites: COG 6, SEN 12, SEN 13
Concept: A jig is a that is created io make a work activity easier. For example,
if a work task call, for 24 item, n■ placed in a bag, a jig could be created with
24 holes to avoid counting aro,. nothe, example could be a device that uses elec¬tronic switches to activate a fine-mom, action that the student could not easily per¬form. The concept of using a jig has wide applications. This sample lesson is only one way in which this can be accomplished. The student should be taught to use one of these items as it relates to a real or potential work project.
Behavioral Objective: When the student is requested to place 24 small items in a jig designed to hold the items, the student will place the items in all slots and then place those items into a bag to a 9596 accuracy level for 20 trials.
Materials: At least 30 small items such as small sponge wedges, a jig that is a flat piece of wood with 24 holes slightly larger than each item cut into it, and plastic bags capable of holding 24 of the items.
Task Altair,.
1. Introduce the student to the materials that will be placed in the contract jig. Encourage the student to manipulate these objects by prompting him or her to pick them up and place them back down in a different location.
2. Demonstrate to the student how to place items in the jig, using physical assis-tance as needed.
3. Continue Step 2, mincing physical prompting until only verbal cues are needed.
4. Teach the student the concept of filling all of the holes provided by the jig and double check to ensure the student, accuracy.
5. After completing an example of Step 4, guide the student in removing those items and placing them in a plastic bag. Continue Steps 4 and 5 until the objective is met.
