Air Quality
Despite the notable reductions in levels of many air pollutants in Canada, people continue to be adversely affected by the air in their communities. Air pollution is the product of the release of hazardous substances into the air. If these substances are present in sufficient concentrations they can cause adverse effects. Outdoor air is usually characterized by something called the Air Quality Index. This index takes into account the levels of six air pollutants. If the threshold level of any one of these is exceeded, then an air quality advisory is released. In LGL there are no provincial air quality monitoring stations, the closest stations are located in Kingston and Ottawa
