A LOCAL man who posed as a police officer to steal money is facing prison and fines after pleading guilty to the charges yesterday.
The court document submitted by prosecuting officer Muhammad Aiman Adri Ahmad Zakaria stated that on August 25, 2015, defendant Ezham Miga, 39, was involved in stealing $150 from the complainant, Slamat Sugiarto.
Ezham introduced himself as a police officer at a shack in the vicinity of rice padi fields in Kg Limau Manis. He entered the premises and demanded that Slamat write down his identification card details on a piece of paper.
Ezham noticed that Slamat had cash in his wallet after Slamat placed it on a table. While Slamat was busy writing down his details, Ezham took $150 from his wallet.
Slamat finished writing down his details and Ezham left in a car driven by another person.
Slamat later lodged a police report when he found that the $150 was missing.
Ezham was arrested on September 1 following a police investigation into the case. The $150 was never recovered.
During the proceedings yesterday, it was revealed that Ezham has four previous convictions for the same offence between 1999 and 2013.
The penalty for posing as a public servant is up to seven years in prison and an unspecified amount in fines. The offence for stealing carries a jail term of up to three years and fines.
A further mention of the case is scheduled for September 8.
Ezham was ordered to be further remanded at Jerudong Prison after the prosecution raised an objection to his release on bail.
