Region based approach: Since the dynamic method uses the image gradients to generate strokes it comes to mind to draw only lines, that follow strong gradients. Only lines, whose total gradient magnitude lies above a fix threshold are drawn. Noisy uniform regions are rejected and later filled with predefined strokes. The results are shown in Fig. 6. The strong edges at the beak and feathers are drawn with dynamically generated strokes. The dark areas and details are later filled with predefined strokes.
