Cockroach Myths
Contrary to popular belief, not all cockroaches avoid light. Although most species do prefer darkness, some are actually attracted to light and can be found gathering near windows or on television screens at night. However, most of these nocturnal insects will scatter when a light is shone upon them.
Another common myth is that cockroaches cannot be killed by radiation and therefore would survive a nuclear explosion. Insects in general are more resistant to radiation than humans due to their physiology but they still are susceptible. Within the insects, cockroaches are more susceptible than many other insects such as moths. Even though they are still affected, cockroaches are able to survive 10X the lethal dose for humans.
