The interviewed households did not always pass through the decision-making process in the same way for other vacations between 1991 and 1998. Various personal and vacation characteristics or factors influ- enced the extensiveness of the process. The most important personal factor appears to be the level of previous experience. Important vacation characteristics mentioned in the interviews are: length of stay (short break versus long vacation), level of organization (organized trip versus self-organized vacation), travel party composition, type of vacation and vacation activities, type of accommodation and travel mode. In this paragraph these factors will be described point-by- point, although in reality these factors often closely correlate.
