Nicotiana section Alatae (Solanaceae) is a well-supported clade (Ippolito 2000; Lim et al. 2006) comprised of the species Nicotiana plumbaginifolia Viv., Nicotiana longiflora Cav., N. alata Link and
Otto, N. forgetiana hort. ex Hemsl., Nicotiana mutabilis Stehmann and Semir, Nicotiana langsdorffii Schrank, Nicotiana bonariensis Lehm. and the putative new species ‘Rastroensis’. Field observations
revealed that the predominant visitors of these species were either hawkmoths, hummingbirds, or small moths (see Fig. 1; Ippolito 2000; Kaczorowski, Gardener & Holtsford 2005).
