As he had done at Scott, Dunlap again brought in Don Burnett and a group of Coopers & Lybrand consultants to help put together the strategic plan for Sunbeam's turnaround. Altogether, 17 teams containing both Coopers & Lybrand consultants and Sunbeam managers were formed to review all aspects of Sunbeam's operations and flesh out the details of an action agenda. Dunlap's turnaround effort had four elements: (1) put together a strong management team of the best insiders and talented new out¬siders; (2) eliminate waste, reduce costs, and make Sunbeam more efficient and cost competitive; (3) focus on core businesses and divest everything else; and (4) imple¬ment an aggressive strategy for global growth.
