You also talk about the fact that you could not use the English language as freely as your native tonge. I do not think this is a problem at all. As non-native speakers of English, we should celebrate our mother language as a great linguistic and intellectual resource which can actually enrich the ways we use English. We may leverage our bilingual background and serve as cultural embassadors for both US people interested in our home culture and our compatirots interested in US. As for the difficulties you mentioned about translating, I guess you probably want to let it go. Translation is an entirely different field in itself and people without specialized training should probably stay away from it for good.
