The national telecom provider of Laos announced that it will introduce the 4G technology for use at the 9th Asia-Europe Meeting Summit, to be held in Vientiane on Nov 5 and 6, 2012. Laos will become second among the 10 Asean member countries after Singapore to use 4G. Customers in provinces outside of the capital will get 4G at the end of this year or early next year. The 4G network can offer download speeds of up to 100Mbps, making it five times faster than 3G. Summit guests will be able to make video calls through internet systems such as skype. China-based Huawei Technology Company is installing 20 4G mobile stations in Vientiane.
