The Flight of Boreas with Oreithyia, Charles William Mitchell. Oreithyia was the mountain Nymph wife of Boreas, the north wind, who dwelt with her husband in a cave on Mount Haimos in Thrake. She was a goddess of chill mountain winds, since her name means "the mountain rager" and her daughter by Boreas was Khione (Snow). She was once a mortal princess, who was abducted by the god from the banks of the river Ilissos near Athens. He carried her off to Thrake where she became his immortal wife.
