KU Medical Center's networking department is beginning a project to upgrade the university's campus network infrastructure. To minimize disruption, the upgrades will take place during the weekends. Once the upgrade is complete, all university buildings on campus will have 1 Gig connectivity to the desktop, which is approximately 10 times faster than the current network connectivity that exists in most (non-research) university buildings.
All of the network switches in each building will be replaced with new equipment. During this time, there will be no network availability in the buildings undergoing upgrades. Each building outage will last from approximately 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (with the exception of Dykes Library and Hoglund Brain Imaging Center, which will occur from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m.), on either a Saturday or Sunday. The networking team will tackle two buildings every other weekend. The first two building upgrades will occur on Saturday, April 2, with building upgrades continuing through November. The complete schedule noting the dates/times that each building will be affected is available here.
We will also send out email communications noting the dates/times that each building will be affected. Again, each building outage will last from approximately 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. that Saturday or Sunday. This network project will not impact Wichita, Salina or The University of Kansas Hospital buildings.
For questions or concerns, please contact DeAnna Villarreal, associate director, telecommunications and networking, at 913-588-4803 or email dvillarr@kumc.edu.
Thank you for your patience and support as we make these important enhancements to the university's network infrastructure!
