The validity and clinical utility of the AN and RVR tests
in assessing semantic fluency in elderly African Americans
has been reported in several studies (Bank et al.,
2002; Summers, Lichtenberg, & Vangel, 1995). Both the
MLDT (AN) and FOME (RVR) measures for semantic fluency
were included in the design of the study because although
“animal naming” is clinically useful due to its ease
of administration, it is subject to the influence of education
(Bank, MacNeill, & Lichtenberg, 2000).
