Fig. 6 shows photographs of mangos on day 1 and day 13. It can
be seen that mangos of CK had rotted and turned completely yellow
by day 13, while the mangos in groups A and B looked better,
and group B was the best of all. The results can be explained by the
coatings effectively retarding the decay and ripening processes,
particularly after being treated with bentonite loaded with potassium
sorbate.
The potential storage lifetime, packaging, and transport time of
mangos are limited by their sensitivity to disease and decay due to
maturity or malacia of the fruit (Yashoda et al., 2005). Various
methods are used in the storage of mangos with cold storage and
chemical methods dominating the market despite their various
problems. Therefore, the study of simple, cheap, and non-toxic
methods is not only helpful for the farmer and businessman, but
also for consumers. It would bring economic, social, and environmental
benefits.
