There are actually many pure lands in Mahayana Buddhism, although Amitabha’s pure land is the most famous and sought after.
As we learned earlier, in Mahayana it was taught that there were three kinds of Buddhas: (1) historical Buddhas (like the one in India), (2) cosmic Buddhas and bodhisattvas, and (3) a higher consciousness equivalent to the whole universe, which is also a Buddha, although never actually seen.
