In order to overcome the limitations posed by the inherent ambiguity of the spectral characteristics of burned areas, and by the limited temporal resolution of Landsat data, the methodology presented in this paper uses spectral changes in time series of Landsat 30mdata and temporally and spatially near-coincident daily 1 kmMODIS active fire detections as separate sources of evidence for the occurrence of fire.
