The updated surviving sepsis Campaign guidelines
were recently published and serve as the basis
for evidence-based care for the treatment of patients
with sepsis. Nurses play an important role in promoting
optimal care for patients with sepsis, so awareness
of the new guidelines and their implications
for nursing care is essential for nurses working in
acute and critical care settings. This article highlights
relevant recommendations from the new sepsis guidelines,
focusing on implications for nursing care of
adult patients with sepsis, and is intended to be read
in conjunction with the updated surviving sepsis
Campaign guidelines.1 The surviving sepsis Campaign
guidelines also outline the specific recommendations
for pediatric patients.
