The Roma are a specific cultural and ethnic minority, also known as Gypsies. Gypsies is a member of a traveling with dark skin and traditionally live by fortune-telling, itinerant trade. In recent years, we have seen the rise of an increasing level of prejudice and discrimination because of their nomadic lifestyle and differences in language and culture. The popular image of the Roma is as thieves and too lazy to work, which has contributed to their widespread marginalization and sometimes persecution. In the past eight centuries Roma communities have been abused, harassed, and chased across Europe. The rise of ethnic conflicts between the Roma and national ethnic majorities is one of the most urgent problems on the agendas of the newly emerging states in Eastern Europe. Roma are described as one of most threatened cultural minority group and no legal protection. They are also subject to overt and covert discriminatory discourse in the media, and they are often the target of hate crimes. Roma people believe in the power of good luck charms, amulets and healing rituals.
