In this study, the feasibility of the method based on ethanol
in extracting lipids was evaluated using several species of marine
microalgae. When the ethanol extraction method was used, the
lipid extraction yield, lipid classes, and fatty acid composition
were determined respectively and compared with those of the
conventional Bligh−Dyer method. Additionally, the underlying
mechanism of the lipid extraction process using ethanol was
investigated and discussed. Finally, approximate protein
content was also investigated for all tested microalgae to
evaluate the value of the wet lipid-extracted algal residues
