Cyrille Aimée was born in Fontainebleau, France, to a French father and Dominican mother.
As a child, Aimée fell in love with gypsy music and the gypsy way of life. Every June, the French village of Samois-sur-Seine would welcome gypsies to set up caravans in nearby meadows for the Django Reinhardt Festival in honor of the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt. While spending evenings at their camps, Aimée learned their language and began to sing by the fire with Reinhardt’s descendants.
