Structure of the car was first designed using commercial software SolidWorks 2012 in the concept of weight and size reductions compared to last year. This is in-line with our aim that agility and drivability are the most favorable. The result is that the structure weighs 5 kg lesser than that of the last year competition. The structure’s material was SS400 tube steel in two different sizes. The first size is 27 × 3 mm for the main hoop and front hoop while the second size is 26 × 2 mm for the rest of the entire structures. Our design of wire mesh can be easily connected to various components attached to the frame. In the construction, a bridge or a boat type was a base design as of its superior in load bearing resistance and it is commonly used in current automotive industry. Prior to real construction, the designed model was analyzed by commercial software MSC Patarn 2008 R2 using “structural strength” by Wigan Council. The results of stress distribution were obtained. For side collision, the speed of 30 km/h is critical by which the structure will collapse 6.4 mm with the factor of safety of 1.0. In the case of front collision, the structure will collapse 4.5 mm with the factor of safety 0.94 at the speed of 80 km/h. The design structure passed the TSAE SEF test.
