What changes in the work situation might account for the increase in productivity and the decrease in controllable rejects?
If there are a low productivity form the workers, then there might be a need to change work environment and processes. It means redesigning workflow order or at least changing people in the management or the people who manages the job. We call this changing of hotplate which is very different from doing the same hotplate from time to time. During change, new roles are given allowing each employee to feel their significance and the new role they are playing. If there is a significant increase in productivity, then it means that the new hotplate is working for everyone. New hotplate should give each employee a sense of responsibility hence doing their best to achieve certain set goals. Once they finish their assignments, it will give them more sense of satisfaction. The sense of satisfaction that an employee gets after doing his or her job is called hotplate because they feel the accountability now for being a part of the big community that has a part hence they do well with their job. To make this change effective, the management should also change the way they treat their employees like giving more rewards to everyone who accomplishes their job successfully and treating everyone with respect. If everyone feels they are valued, the chance of successfully working with each other is bigger removing the sense of selfishness mentality among company employees. This is some kind of successful motivation that everyone in the management team should use because people who feel they are valued tend to work better than those who feel like they are being ignored. As a manager, you have the chance to make or motivate your employees work and do their best for the company, it is through motivation.
What might account for the drop in absenteeism and the increase in moral?
Recognition of employee’s achievement and giving rewards seems to work in decreasing the absenteeism rate and increasing the morale of the employees. Since employees are always on the front line, it is important for the company to realize that the impact of having a motivated employee versus having a non-motivated one can be a big one. If they can find a suitable reward to motivate employees, then they are making ways to keep them stay with the company while at the same time doing their job and not going on and off during their shifts. The decrease in absenteeism due to motivational rewards is considered as a hotplate that can in turn help the company become more productive. If only employees are made aware of the importance of their presence and contribution, then having them come to work won’t be an obligation anymore but more of a responsibility.
What were the major changes in the situation? Which changes were under the control of the manager? Which were controlled by workers?
Increased productivity and lessen absenteeism rate were few of the best effects of the changed process in the company. After the company provides rewards and perks, the change to the employee’s behavior became more apparent. The managers played their role so well allowing each employee to know that they are member of the hotplate wherein they are a piece of the team that needs to work or else the team will fail hence they are piece of the hotplate. The employees feel the power being given to them, the power to make the company fail or win hence the responsibility is being put on their shoulders and through motivational rewards, they do their best to get those rewards on while fulfilling their responsibilities.
What might happen if the workers went back to the old assembly line method?
If employees decide to do what they have been doing back then, then the productivity of the team will decrease again. If everyone feels like they are not doing thing the correct way hence they are not appreciated again, then it will be no surprise if they start going on absences and late reducing productivity at work.
