I had the same project several years ago. I ended up creating a browser plugin that would execute a cookie replay attack. With no prior experience developing browser plugins (because my curriculum mainly focused on Java and C development) it still was a success.
Why?
Because it demonstrated the attack. Not my programming and development competency.
By now, you know how to program. I would create a tool that executes some sort of attack. Really understand the problem first and then research how to execute the attack. That is the key. Create a basic tool and test it in a controlled environment.
It will show your professor that you truly understand the problem and you will be able to demonstrate something with a little "wow" factor.
Good luck!
