Government policy concerning the interdiction of log export in 1985 has stimulated the development of wood industry in Indonesia, included in South Sulawesi. The aim of this research is to study the marketing management of sawn timber in South Sulawesi using commodity approach. The result of this research will give a data-base in order to improve the marketing management of sawn timber in region and at the same time it will be a usable information for the other related studies. The research was done in two months from February to March 1993 in Kabupaten Luwu and Kotamadya Ujung Pandang. Descriptive analysis concerning the stock of wood/timber and market channels of timber distributions in South Sulawesi. The study found out that types of exported sawn timber from South Sulawesi, were generally in form of boards, blocks, moulding, block board window/door, wood working and laminating. In other side, those which are locally commercialized and interinsulaire are in form of boards, blocks and rejected quality of exported sawn timber.
