2.4.4. Effect of initial pH
It is well documented that pH of the biosorption medium is an
important parameter affecting the uptake of heavy metals from
aqueous solutions by biosorbent. The effect of initial pH on the
sorption was studied by adjusting the pH (using 0.1 M NaOH and
0.1 M HCl)in the range 2–8 ofthe solutions of 25 mg L−1 ppm Cu(II),
Ni(II) and Zn(II) in distilled water. 50 mL of each metal solution was
treated with 1 g of MOSB and shaken for 10 h followed by centrifugation
and analysis of the supernatant liquid using FAAS.
