died on day 10, the second animal died on day 11, and
the third animal was euthanized in agony on day 11.
Acute hemorrhagic syndrome was clearly manifested.
Marked generalized maculopapullar rash developed in
all three monkeys (first rash sights appeared on day 7).
Hemorrhagic diarrhea and nose:mouth bleedings were
recorded in one animal; two animals had bleeding from
the puncture point. Neurological symptoms (tonic and
clonic spasms up to cessation of breathing) were
recorded in one monkey immediately before death. At
necropsy the hemorrhagic rash was observed in small
intestine in all animals. By the end of disease, animals
lost 7–12% of their weight.
Detectable viremia in blood appeared on day 3 post
infection (Table 1), prior to the onset of clinical sights,
which began on day 6. This is an important finding,
because it suggests that virus can be transmitted before
clinical evidence of disease. Starting from day 6, with
