However, rhamnolipids are mainly produced
by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic human pathogen. In
recent years the zoosporicidal properties of cyclic lipopeptides have
been demonstrated (De Souza et al., 2003; Tran, 2007). Fortunately
these compounds can be produced by other species of fluorescent
pseudomonads, which eliminates the need to work with
P. aeruginosa.
