4) Adequate control of carcinogens, mutagens and asthmagens. COSHH acknowledges the particular hazardous of substances which cause cancer, heritable genetic damage or asthma by requiring that exposure to reduce to as low a level as is reasonably practicable. The HSE website contains guidance on suitable controls. For carcinogens (substances which may cause cancer) or mutagens (substances which may cause heritable genetic damage) special requirements apply. These are in regulation 7(5) of COSHH and explained in Appendix 1 of the COSHH ACOP.
